VBS 2005
VBS 2005: Jerusalem Marketplace. June 13-17, 2005
Trinity Church was transformed into Old Jerusalem complete with the Temple, a marketplace, animals, soldiers, shop keepers, children, and teachers. There were 140 attending during the week long event. Eight chidren made the decision to accept Jesus as their Savior during the week.
The group was divided into "tribes" for the week, each named after one of the 12 tribes of Israel. The evening started with a gathering in the "Temple" (worship room) with songs, stories, and announcements. During the remainded of the time the groups studied in their tribe rooms (classes), visited the animals in the front yard, toured the shops and crafts in the "marketplace" (youth room), and had snacks in the fellowship hall. Each participant was dressed in Biblical attire.
Nematodius (Bro. Gene) was the story teller each night, visiting with the groups and participating in the activities. Teens and adults were part of the drama team each night acting out skits for the program. There were teachers in the temple each night for Bible study lessons. Recreation and the animals took place on the front lawn.
The shops in the marketplace included herbs and medicine, carpentry, jewelry, and pottery.
On Friday night, the parents were invited to participate in the events with their children.
